Though now some people may believe green tea to be the most popular of the teas we drink, in the Western culture black tea has always been the most consumed and still accounts for over ninety percent of all the tea sold. In other cultures, black tea is actually identified as red tea which more accurately describes its color. Its dark color exists because the process of making black tea also involves more heavy use of the tea leaves and black tea goes through full fermentation in which the leaf color darkens to give it their black color. Thus, this tea retains a strong flavor that may typically lasts at least several years, while green tea outlives its flavor before one year is over. Furthermore, due to the way black tea is processed it also retains more caffeine than other teas that do not undergo as much oxidization.

In making black tea, after the tea leaves are harvested, sorted, and inspected, a process of withering takes place by drying the leaves. As water evaporates from the leaves, fermentation (oxidation) then proceeds, and the leaves turn from green to brown (like leaves in autumn) as enzymes oxidize. The fermentation of black tea also occurs by increasing the heat and humidity, and with all of these factors in place, it will only take a couple of hours for what might have been green tea to turn into black tea.

The flavor of black tea differs and ranges from flowery and fruity to spicy and nutty. There are also many blended black teas, similar to our LiChee black tea, it was blended with the shell of the Lichee fruit with gives it the extremely sweet taste and strong aroma. Long-term consumption of black tea can lead to a lower risk of a stroke and you can find a high concentration of flavonoids in black tea. Flavonoids helps reduce clotting of arteries and act as an antioxidant that reduce levels of damaging free radicals in the human body.

People may not think black tea to be as prevalent as it is because different black teas are not advertised as black teas. Different types of black tea include Keemun and Lapsang Souchong tea (smoky flavor developed by drying tea over burning pine) from China; Yunnan tea (sweet and dark) tea among others.
